It's Consignment Time! Every year a couple times a year there is a really large consignment sale in our area. It's called Best Dress for Less and honestly it is the most organized, smooth running operation I have ever seen! I hate to say but I probably should admit that I am a clothes snob. Never really thought of buying clothes at a consignment sale for my kids. The girls always have nice clothes on and I definitely overspend on them! What can I say I have 3 girls and I always wanted them to look cute. It was easier to splurge when I had one kid, then I added a second a couple years later and hey they had to match. 5 years later along came another girl. Needless to say there is a lot of girls clothes in this house!! I don't always do a lot of shopping at the sale because clearly I need NO more clothes in this house. My girls are not rough and tough so I typically move clothes from one closet to the next. BUT I recently started consigning at the sale and realized I probably was missing out on some great deals on great clothes. I literally just sat and organized stacks of clothes with tags still on them. All from Gymboree, Janie and Jack and other nice stores. This will be the 5th sale I am dropping items off for. At first it seems like a lot of work to get it all organized. Clothes have to be secured on a certain type of hanger and tagged on certain type of paper but honestly once I knew what I was doing it is no big deal and that is why the sale is so organized! I have to say if you are in need of clothes, toys, and all things kids check it out!! You won't be disappointed. I am definitely going to stop by and browse the selection!
But more importantly and what my next couple of post will be about is it is an easy way to make money on things you already have and need to get rid of. My house is bursting at the seams! If it were up to my husband he would throw it all into bags and drop it off at the dumpster. But not me!! I look at these things and think ugh we spent so much money on that I hate to give it away and now with yard sale sites on Facebook and consignment sales, I look at it and see $$$. I used to sell the girls clothes on ebay all the time. I felt like even if I made a little bit of money then I could put it towards new clothes for the next season. A lot of their stuff is in such good shape! What I found with the consignment sale is it is an easy way to quickly get rid of a good amount of stuff and make a little money. The best part is that you have a couple of options of what to do with the stuff that doesn't sell. The first thing is on the last day of the sale they discount items. So if you want you check off discount and you might have better luck because a lot of people wait for that day and go and stock up! Then at the end if you still have items left there is a box you check if you want to donate. Anything that you want to donate, the sale loads into a large truck and donates the item. They have a pretty cool internet based system that you can track what you sold, what you made and even print a donation slip for your taxes. So at the end of the day it is a good chance to make some extra cash and get rid of items all at the same time. For the first two sales that I participated in I made over $200! Not bad! This time I am determined to get as many items as I can ready to go into the sale! With the girls birthdays around the corner that should cover at least one of their high priced never ending items on their list!
